Our empowerment program hosts the only on-site daycare that is specific to a family violence safe shelter in the State of Arkansas. Children in our care receive education, advocacy and emotional support.
Parents can be confident that their children are in a safe place, which provides support to mothers, allowing them to seek employment, permanent housing, finalize legal obligations, and work to safely transition back into the community as productive citizens.
The childcare personnel have received training specific to the needs of the children we serve through Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and A State Professional Development Registry.
Because of the special needs of those we serve, we focus a great deal on social/emotional development and utilize the Second Step for Early Learners and the UAMS REACH social/emotional curriculums to provide the children a greater opportunity toward a foundation for good behaviors and future school success.
The Sebastian County Dept of Human Services Division of Children & Family Services has approved the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) curriculum as non-violent positive discipline training. Victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault are eligible to attend these free quality parenting classes.
