Our agency’s mission is to end domestic violence and sexual assault through services, education, and prevention programs which empower men, women, and their children to live free of fear and harm within their own families and the community.
Our History
The Donald W Reynolds Crisis Intervention Center, originated in 1979 as the Battered Women’s Shelter.
It was a mission chapter under the umbrella of the Young Woman’s Christian Association (YWCA), serving as a safe-haven for women and children fleeing family violence.
By 1994, The Battered Women’s Shelter’s Board of Directors felt the demand for victim services warranted an agency solely dedicated to carrying out this purpose, and ceased functioning as a YWCA chapter. The name Crisis Center for Battered Women, Inc. was chosen.
The new identity provided the shelter with an opportunity to apply for and acquire federal funds through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and other related resources. Over the next several years additional facilities were purchased and staff was added to better meet the needs of domestic violence and sexual assault victims in our community. The agency’s name changed again in 1998 to the Crisis Center for Women, Inc. (CCW).
In June of 2003, the Crisis Center for Women was awarded a capital grant from the Donald W Reynolds Foundation. The generous grant, along with matching community support netted $2.6 million dollars to build a model victim service center. With the new secured facility design, we no longer needed to be in a undisclosed location. The Crisis Center was designed as a one-stop facility to offer an advanced security system that encompasses administration, direct services, a 32 bed shelter for women and their children, a licensed day care, a Sexual Assault Exam Center, and a training area.
With the completion of the new state-of-the-art facility in 2009, the agency name was changed to it’s current name, The Donald W Reynolds Crisis Intervention Center, Inc. (CIC), to better represent the overall victim services our agency provides.
