SARA (Sexual Assault Response Advocate) Volunteer

Program Objective:

To minimize the emotional impact of sexual assault for survivors and their loved ones and help survivors regain control over their lives by providing support, information, and a safe environment.

Responsibilities:

Assist survivors of sexual assault by providing them with support, a change of clothing, information, and appropriate referrals.  Obtain accurate information for the Incident Report and return it to the supervisor within 48 hours.  Maintain confidentiality of the survivor and their loved ones at all times.

Requirements:

  • Age 18 minimum
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must complete Dynamics and SARA training sessions
  • Must be responsible, emotionally stable, and able to follow directions
  • Must not currently be facing criminal charges or ever have been convicted of a violent offense
  • Must be willing to make a commitment to be on call at least once per month
  • Must be able to work harmoniously with staff and other professionals
  • Must attend one new volunteer orientation session and one on-going training session per year
  • Must complete on-the-job training/shadowing by staff or experienced Volunteer/Advocate when responding to rape crisis calls
